Help us make "Blessing Bags" this easter season

We have all encountered folks asking for donations on the street and often feel like we don’t know what to do. Blessing bags are a way for you to step into those situations and be a blessing to someone.

We invite you to make a few this month. You are welcome to keep a few for your own household and then drop off a few at the church to help us create a stockpile of them for use by church members. You can drop off the ones you’ve made in the box in the Parcel Room at the church – the entrance is on Harry Street and is open all the time.

What is a Blessing Bag?

As you encounter folks on the street corners or around your community - who are holding signs asking for donations of money/food. You may feel awkward or just look away. This is a great way for you to greet them and give a bit of comfort. It can let them know that they are being thought of and cared for by our larger community.

How to make your own Blessing Bag
  • Two "gallon size" zipper type plastic bags
  • Pair (or two) of tube type socks (Large size works) - these go inside one gallon bag
Sweeze the air out - so they go in the bottom of the other gallon bag
  • Bottle of water - 12-16 oz. size fits nicely
  • Chicken or Tuna Kit - or Beef Jerky sticks
  • Peanut butter or cheese crackers package
  • Pudding Cup & Fruit Cup
  • Granola Bar or Fruit Bar
  • Peanut Butter Cup - individual serving
  • Plastic Ware - spoon & fork
  • Small Tootsie Roll/ Starburst hard candy - something that does not melt(Possibly put in an Easter Egg with candy)
  • Personal hygiene - toothbrush/paste/floss
  • Handy wipe or individual towelette type cleaner (hand sanitizer bottles are great right now)

If you like - add a personal note or card:
Example:
“Here is a ‘Blessing Bag’ for you. While you might be going through a difficult season, let this little bag remind you that you are worth so much. There are people who care about you and there is always hope. You are beautiful and Jesus can always sustain you. We will be praying for you and hope you have a lovely day."
