After a careful evaluation process, on August 12th, the Call Committee recommended the Reverend Dr. Karyn Wiseman to become the next pastor at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. On August 13th the Congregation Council voted to approve
the candidate!
On September 7th, Pastor Karyn will lead us in worship after which we will hold a special congregational meeting. At the start of the meeting members of the congregation will be able to ask questions of Pastor Karyn, The Church Council and
members of the Call Committee. Once the questioning concludes, we will ask PastorKaryn to leave the sanctuary and we will proceed with a congregational vote to “affirm” the vote taken by council.
Pastor Karyn is currently a professor of Homiletics at the United Lutheran Seminary, but is ordained through the United Church of Christ which is a full ecumenical partner with the Lutheran Church. As such this is not a normal “call” as we know it, rather more of a contract arrangement that is reviewed on an annual basis by the council. The motion we will make for approval at our meeting on the 7 th will be to “Affirm the Invitation to Extended Service under Contract”. These things though are technical details due to her ordination through the UCC and do not diminish the call committee and the church council’s excitement about presenting Pastor Karyn to you all as the next pastor at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church! She is a
seasoned teacher and pastor who we believe brings the necessary leadership skills and style to lead our congregation moving forward. The best part is that she is equally excited to become part of our community!
